The South Shore/Jackson Park golf course project has yet to be named, but its details are no longer a mystery. With a goal to raise golf interest in Chicago, this golf course will be 7354 yards or 6.7 kilometers and a par 70. While this may seem like a simple project, it was met with more than one challenge, the land being one of them. Lake erosion is one of those things, not to mention the cost of an underpass. Everything has to be balanced out in order for the green fees to remain affordable for both the newcomers and the loyal players. Tiger Woods Inspires Golf Course Design & Location Speaking of newcomers, this course’s design was done by none other than the legendary Tiger Woods. Rehabilitating from a back surgery and pain medication dependency, he sought new challenges, and designing a golf course is as big of a challenge as anything else. One of the main reasons of Tiger’s interest in designing this course is to make the game as playable as it can be, especially to attract the newcomers. Playing the game is one thing, but having fun is even more important, but not just for those new to the game, but also the elderly and the professionals. The golf course is expected to open in 2020, and will have very interesting and scenic holes. Lake Michigan should be visible from at least six holes, while the entire course should resemble a parkland. Tiger is a strong believer in wide fairways, because they are much friendlier to everyone. They do plan on making some hazards and bunkers, to make the better players think and take risks. Even though the course is to be splendid and attractive when it comes to the holes, the rest of the course will be minimalistic and functional. This will aid in helping to minimize the green fees and make the experience as best as possible for everyone.
