What is worth noting is that Real Madrid backed out of a deal to sign David De Gea a Spanish goal keeper with Manchester United. The same goal keeper played in the game and saved penalty kicks from Mateo Kovacic and Oscar. Manchester scored first at the 45 minute mark with a beauty from Jesse Lingard from 3 yards out. Anthony Martial provided the assistance that created the first goal with a skillful display on the ball. His pace took him past 3 of Real Madrid’s defenders easily. Casemiro scored a spot kick that cancelled Jesse Lingard goal in the 68th minute of the game. The penalty came from a bad tackle on Hernandez by Lindelof. Casemiro later missed his penalty shot hitting the crossbar that went over the goal bar. Major Second Half Changes Major changes in players came into effect for the second half as Manchester changed most of the players. De Gea, Herrera, Blind, Smalling, Mkhitaryan, Lindelof, Lukaku and Pogba started the second half while Romero, Bailly, Jones, Pereira, Carrick, Lingard, Fosu-Mensah and Rashford game ended after the first half. Herrera was injured and Scott McTominay replaced him. A foul by Smallings gave Madrid a chance to take the lead, but de Gea produced a brilliant save against Casado to keep the score tied. Manchester United player Darmian was substituted and replaced by Valencia. Pogba had a small chance at goal, but couldn’t convert, while Madrid had yet another close call at goal but Danny Gomez was unable to finish the play as the ball kept low across the 6 yard box. In the 83rd minute Scott McTominay had the opportunity to finish the game for Manchester with a brilliant pass from Fellaini. He kicked the ball skyward from 8 yards out with the goal dead center. Real Madrid had another opportunity in the 89th minute, but Quezada shot the ball over the bars. After 90 minutes had been played, an additional 3 minutes is added. Penalty Kicks The first penalty went to Manchester United player Martial, but he missed. Next up was Madrid’s player Kovacic, he was saved by De Gea. Next is McTominay and he was saved as well, Óscar Rodríguez was also saved putting the score at 0-0 after 4 penalty kicks. Mkhitaryan scored his attempt giving Manchester United their first goal. Quezada steps up for Madrid and gave them their first goal as well. Score was now 1-1 and Lindelof was saved by the keeper after kicking his ball straight. The keeper saved the ball with his feet. Hernandez was next and missed as well, not even coming close to the goal bars. After 4 shots at goal each, score was still 1-1. Blind scored his attempt at goal and Manchester took the lead. Casemiro who scored the first penalty some how managed to miss this one. It hit the cross bar and cost Real Madrid the game. The game finished 2-1 on penalties in favor of Manchester United after ending 1-1 in regular time.
