In 2014, he was named the winner of the FIFA World Cup Golden Bail and UEFA best player in Europe in 2011 and 2015 among others. Contract Expiration With his contract expiring in June 2018, Barcelona is very eager for Messi to sign a new five-year contract. However, Messi has given a condition for the club (Barcelona FC) to sign new five players to help boost the squad. The positions being requested are a right back, center back, a midfielder, and two forwards. Recently, Jordi Mester, who is the Barcelona Vice President has made it clear that Messi didn’t turn down the club’s offer to renew his contract and that everything should be finalized soon.
