In the world of football, Lionel Andres Messi is a very famous player known by both mainstream soccer fans and non-soccer fans. The Argentine international who plays for Barcelona FC has had a great career so far. In total Messi has scored over 500 goals for his country and club.

Messi joined Barcelona at the age of 13, though he made his debut at the age of 17. For the whole season, he managed only five appearances for the first team. On the 24th June 2005, he signed his first contract as a senior player and got the chance to play in the first eleven. Messi made his first appearance for his country in 2004-05, where he played at youth level. In 2005-06, he joined the senior team and made his World Cup debut.

Career Achievements

Lionel Messi’s career at 30 years old consists of a number of achievements and awards like; he has eight La-Liga titles with Barcelona, five Copa del Rey, and six Supercopa de Espana. Besides these, he has won four UEFA Champions League, Three UEFA Super Cups, and Three FIFA Club World all with Barcelona. While playing for his country (Argentina), he has been able to win the Olympic Gold Medal in 2008 and FIFA-under 20 World Cup in 2005.

Individually, the Argentine International has won four European Golden Shoe, five Ballon d’Or, and six times Best player in La-Liga. In 2014, he was named the winner of the FIFA World Cup Golden Bail and UEFA best player in Europe in 2011 and 2015 among others.

Contract Expiration

With his contract expiring in June 2018, Barcelona is very eager for Messi to sign a new five-year contract. However, Messi has given a condition for the club (Barcelona FC) to sign new five players to help boost the squad. The positions being requested are a right back, center back, a midfielder, and two forwards. Recently, Jordi Mester, who is the Barcelona Vice President has made it clear that Messi didn’t turn down the club’s offer to renew his contract and that everything should be finalized soon.
