The former Montreal Canadiens forward has now been given the biggest deal in the NHL free agency period. It’s being reported that the deal was matched by the Canadiens but that he agreed to the original offer from the Dallas Stars first, hence he was not going to go back on his verbal agreement. This is one of the many moves that the Dallas Stars have made this offseason. They’ve already acquired Ben Bishop via trade, along with Marc Methot. It’s also been reported that they have signed Martin Hazal. These moves should help improve the Dallas Stars in the upcoming season. “Alexander is a dynamic playmaker with top-end speed and skill”, Jim Nill said in a released statement. “To add a forward of this stature to our lineup makes our top-six as deep and talented as any group in this league”. With statements such as this, the expectations for the upcoming season has been raised considerably. The Dallas Stars fans have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming season, but it remains to be seen how well this team will gel. With the newly acquired talent and raised expectations, the fans will be expecting to see a team that has the potential to go all the way to the Stanley Cup! The sole Stanley Cup win for the Stars came in 1999, and that’s almost 2 decades ago! They’ve missed the playoffs 7 of the last 9 seasons, and with new head coach Ken Hitchcock now running the team it may take some time for everyone involved to truly come together as a team.
